LAFC Ends Winless Run With 2-0 Victory Over Red Bull New York at BMO Stadium
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles FC returned to winning ways Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over Red Bull New York at BMO Stadium, ending a six-match winless run in MLS play. Goals from 17-year-old midfielder Jude Terry and second-half substitute Armindo Sieb secured all three points for the Black & Gold, while another disciplined defensive performance kept New York off the scoresheet. The victory improved LAFC to 11-7-7 with 40 points and kept the club in third place in the Western Conference.

LAFC found its breakthrough in the 21st minute following an aggressive sequence down the left side. Yevhen Cheberko regained possession and quickly moved the ball forward to Son Heung-Min near the edge of the penalty area. Son worked his way past the New York defense before firing a left-footed effort toward goal. Red Bulls goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made the initial save, but the rebound fell into the path of Terry, who calmly finished from near the top of the box to put LAFC ahead 1-0. It was Terry's second goal of the season and his first at BMO Stadium.
The goal highlighted another important step in Terry's development with LAFC. The Homegrown midfielder became the club's second-highest scoring Homegrown Player in team history with two goals, trailing only Nathan Ordaz. Despite his age, Terry was trusted with another start in the LAFC midfield and rewarded that confidence with what ultimately became the match-winning goal.
LAFC continued to create the more dangerous opportunities throughout the opening half. The Black & Gold recorded five shots on target before halftime compared with just one for New York, forcing Horvath into several interventions to keep the visitors within one goal. Three of his six saves on the night came late in the first half as New York survived LAFC's pressure and entered halftime trailing only 1-0.

Although New York finished the match with approximately 57 percent of possession, LAFC was considerably more productive with the ball in attacking areas. Los Angeles outshot the Red Bulls 15-8 overall and 8-1 in shots on target, while also holding a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Horvath's six saves prevented the scoreline from growing earlier, while LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris needed to make only one save.
Son remained at the center of many of LAFC's best attacking moments. He registered a game-high eight shots, equaling his highest total in an MLS match, and came inches away from doubling the lead in the 78th minute. The South Korean forward found space near the six-yard area and drove a left-footed effort off the crossbar, denying what would have been another goal in front of the BMO Stadium crowd.

LAFC also welcomed back midfielder Igor Jesus, who entered for Terry around the hour mark. It was his first appearance in more than a year after suffering a knee injury against FC Dallas on August 23, 2025. Armindo Sieb entered at roughly the same stage, replacing Jacob Shaffelburg in what became a significant home debut for the 23-year-old German forward.
New York, meanwhile, was forced to manage several injury issues throughout the night. Adri Mehmeti exited during the first half, while Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty and Justin Che were also unable to finish the match after suffering second-half injuries. By the closing stages, the Red Bulls were playing with only nine men. Dennis Nelich and Sekou Kone also made their MLS debuts, while Devin Padelford earned his first start for the club.
Despite the personnel problems, New York stayed within striking distance until deep into stoppage time. Horvath's performance gave the visitors a chance to find an equalizer, but LAFC finally delivered the goal that put the match beyond reach.

On the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, Cheberko and Ryan Hollingshead combined down the left flank before Hollingshead delivered the ball toward Sieb at the top of the penalty area. Sieb took a touch before driving a powerful left-footed finish past Horvath, sealing the 2-0 result and scoring his first MLS goal in only his second appearance for LAFC. The former Bayern Munich forward had made his LAFC debut days earlier in a 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake.

While the two goals decided the match, LAFC's defensive performance was equally important. The clean sheet was the club's 13th of the season, setting a new single-season team record, while Lloris recorded his 12th individual MLS clean sheet of 2026. LAFC limited New York to only one shot on target and continued its remarkable home record against Eastern Conference opponents. Since the beginning of the 2025 season, LAFC is 6-0-0 at BMO Stadium against Eastern Conference teams and has outscored those opponents 15-0.
The result was also significant because LAFC had entered Wednesday without an MLS victory in six consecutive matches. The Black & Gold had remained competitive during that stretch, but a series of draws and narrow results had prevented the club from collecting maximum points. Against New York, LAFC combined patience, defensive control and consistent chance creation to finally turn a strong performance into three points. The club also improved to 11-0-2 in MLS matches this season when scoring first.

For the Red Bulls, the defeat extended their winless run to six league matches and dropped their record to 7-11-6. New York's possession allowed the visitors to spend stretches on the ball, but the Red Bulls struggled to turn that control into meaningful chances against an organized LAFC back line. Head coach Michael Bradley nevertheless praised the competitiveness of his young group after a difficult night that included multiple injuries and two MLS debuts.
For LAFC, Wednesday's victory offered more than three points. Terry's breakthrough at home, Sieb's first MLS goal, Igor Jesus' long-awaited return and another clean sheet from one of the league's strongest defensive units provided several positives as Los Angeles entered the closing stretch of the regular season.
